Learning from nature: Transformable constructions

Transformable constructions can adapt over time to different scenarios, react to climatic agents, or protect the environment. Many examples can be found in nature, such as plants or insects, and in engineering applications, providing pre-programmed mobile solutions.

During the Transformable Constructions course, students will take an intensive course focused on the identification, understanding, and development of mobile structures focused on the field of architecture and engineering. Students will develop a mobile, light, and robust enclosure product following mobile mechanisms such as folding and scissors systems. This enclosure should be used to protect the environment or industrial work area.

The development of the course will include a theoretical introduction, analyzing examples, manufacturing methods. It will be focused on "learning by doing", with a focus on prototyping. At the end of the semester, students will be required to present their final product in 1:1.

The course will be supported by practical workshops collaborating with ManuLab, and theoretical/digital workshops at Trako.
