Tree growth experiment
Growth direction of the stem and the branches
The challenges of climate change encourage research areas to apply new sustainable solutions on an industrial scale, such as timber construction. Timber, as a natural material, has demonstrated its efficiency over the centuries. According to their growth and structural anisotropy of the material, most of the products search longitudinally for standardized productions. However, by influencing and manipulating the growth process, the limits of wood material properties and technical possibilities can be enhanced.
Thanks to their excellent growth speed, different plant species allow their study in a short time. In this case, the tree species Paulownia Artemis has accelerated growth in its first two years. At Trako we carried out an intensive study of this first growth phase to determine the influences that affect the geometry and resistance in its growth.
